All year, a planet transformed by the burning of carbon discharged what would have once been called portents of apocalypse. The people of that planet, as a whole, didn’t take much notice — distracted by the pandemic and trained, both by the accumulating toll of recent disasters and the ever-rising volume of climate alarm, to see what might once have looked like brutal ruptures in lived reality instead as logical developments in a known pattern.
I'll be teaming up with Shivvy Jervis in what promises to be a riveting conversation about 'the good future' and 'circular economy' for the opening of the 'Zero Waste Conference' in Vancouver.
As the world is changing I had to change my presentations into what I call 'keynote television'. Allowing me to work for different engagements around the world, without leaving my studio in Zurich. At the same time, I am very excited to finally go back to large REAL-LIFE events. Here's a compilation of some of those 2021 events recorded with subtitled (or dubbed) versions.
The number of countries announcing pledges to achieve net-zero emissions over the coming decades continues to grow. But the pledges by governments to date – even if fully achieved – fall well short of what is required to bring global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions to net zero by 2050 and give the world an even chance of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5 °C.
